Sea Dog Firkin Fridays are in full swing. On the 3rd Friday of every month, each Maine Sea Dog Property will feature a unique Firkin on the Bar!WHAT'S A FIRKIN?
A Firkin is a vessel used to carry delicious cask conditioned ale, also known as "real ale." It's 1/2 the size of a keg and will be seen resting on its side. We keep the firkin on its side to retain its firkin goodness.
But really...
It's on its side so none of the sediment that settles to the bottom during the secondary fermentation gets into your glass. We want your beer to be as clear as possible.
If you haven't gotten the chance to experience cask conditioned ale, you are in for a treat. Although it is not for everyone, it has a noticeably smoother, rounder more complex character and by most accounts, is a bit warmer than traditional ale. If you talk to any lover of "Real Ales" they will probably note that the warmer temperature allows for flavors to appear that would normally be disguised by colder temperatures.
Over the past few months our Head Brewer, Brooks Mathews, has been coming up with creative versions of old favorites and has featured the following brews:
JANUARY- Sea Dog Brown Ale Infused with French Oak & Amaretto
FEBRUARY- Sea Dog Maple Porter Made with Local Maple Syrup
MARCH- Peruvian Dark Imperial Stout Infused with Adventurous Joe Dark Roast, Fair Trade Arabica Beans
UPCOMING
MAY- Jalapeno IPA
